Jimmy Mannix

As a young teenager growing up in northern N.J., I was first inspired to play the guitar by my neighbor, Mike Fraticelli. I used to hang out with Mike's band who rehearsed in the basement of his home, and thought it would be really cool to form a band of my own.   Inspired by many forms of music, I played through high school in a band called Tunnell, doing every thing from: Zeppelin,  Buffalo Springfield, the Airplane, Wilson Pickett, the Doors, the Byrds to whoever. I tried to bring my free spirited philosophy to all my musical endeavors. "There's good music for the masses that we all love."

In 1970, I moved to South Jersey and hooked up with sax man Allen Weber and an old friend, Richard  Hughes. We were the opening band for Dragonwyck , Bob Campanell's high school band. They were awesome. Richard left to start another band and wound up doing five albums as Johnny Winter's drummer.

Allen took me to meet another band playing in a church basement called Jasons Fleet. We hooked up and became friends but never really got going. However, keyboardist/vocalist Sam Marini and I would connect again.

I spent some time up in Westport, Conn. playing in the Out to Lunch Band, with North Jersey bud Bob Stillman on keys. Then in Ithaca New York played some Soul Music with the Bernie Milton Band with an old high school bud, Geoff Sacco on bass.

Years later, returning to South Jersey, I once again started playing with Sam Marini, of Sam & Jesse. We recruited longtime friend and bassman for Hostage, Kenny Porst, and drummer Bob Kennedy to form Everyday Heights. This was to be an original band, and for four years we wrote and practiced trying to get our act into local venues like the Galaxy. Unfortunately, changing the band's name to Stranger, didn't help, so the usual band stuff ended it here for a while.

Then I started playing with my brother Joey in Gabriel.  Joe was still in school so all we could do at the time were dances, outdoor parties at the Savich farm, battle of the bands, and just fun stuff to keep playing.

Next came a band called Inside Moves, with Puff, Sandy, and Greg Throop. We played lots of great songs. Then after some time off to help raise my kids and ruin another marriage, I was asked by Greg Throop to join Cheap Sun Glasses . I played with them for five years, bringing onboard Kenny Porst and  Dave Casenti. Dave was a player I knew and jammed with many times before. We had always agreed we should someday get together. So when the time was right, Dave, Kenny and I left Sunglasses to start Big Bang with my brother Joey. Sadly however, Ken had to leave due to pressing family responsibilities, so we went as a trio with Dave being the consummate bassman himself. Then we coaxed Andy Farrah of Wicked Cricket  to join so we got back to four guys, enabling us to play so much more of what fans have come to expect from us! This gave us variety, and an energy-filled show, with dancebility! Andy departed and we are complete again with Tony on bass.

"It just keeps getting better and better. I hope folks enjoy us as much as we enjoy playing for them!  And if you don't hear what you like,  just ask jm"
