Some believe that the beginning of the universe started off all in one place with a “big explosion of energy” going in “every direction”.  And so it was true!  At least that’s the way it was for  “The Big Bang”, a cover band formed in a small workshop on Route 70 in Medford, N.J. in the summer of 1995.Mount Holly, N.J. spawned many musicians and cover bands in the 1990’s.

One of many incarnation’s, of the band
“Cheap Sun Glasses”, found lead vocalist David Cassenti teamed up with guitarist/vocalist Jimmy Mannix.  A unique sound with pristine harmony and an exciting visual stage experience was soon realized and when the band had no more to offer, Dave & Jim along with bassist Kenny Porst recruited Jim’s brother Joey on drums to develop a cover band that would hit audiences with a “big explosion of energy” and a diverse musical repertoire that would go in “every direction”.

“The Big Bang” covers songs old and new.  From “Brown Eyed Girl” to “Kryptonite”.  Tom Petty to Creed.  While Jimmy’s soulfulness has steered the band into covering music like “Chain of Fools” and “It’s Your Thing”, Dave has pushed for compositions by “Nine Inch Nails” and “Alice In Chains” and Joey kept things steady with choices by “Stone Temple Pilots”, “Aerosmith”, “Led Zep” & “Van Halen”.

From 1996 to the year 2000, the band has entertained private parties and local South Jersey clubs like “Dadz Bar & Grill”, “Keegan’s Pub”, Josh & Mollies” and “The Indian Chief” with theatrical shows that relished an assortment of bizarre masks and costumes that would enhance the music, while expanding their musical variety by giving the fans songs that they longed for.

When bassist Kenny Porst left the band, Dave took over on bass and the trio added singer Linda Kelly.  Playing clubs like “The Jughandle Inn”, she takes the band in other musical directions, covering such things as “Like The Way I Do” and “Black Velvet” just to name a few.

The Big Bang picked up the original direction of music with
the addition of bass virtuoso Andy Farah upon Linda’s departure
in early 2001.Andy brought back lot’s of songs that the fan base had
not heard since Kenny’s departure such as Dave Mathew’s “Too Much”, “The Impression That I Get” from the Mighty, Mighty, Bosstones & old favorite “It’s Your Thing”. The Big bang was also able to expand the variety with songs like “Brick House & Play That Funky Music” for packing the dance floors while keeping current with selections from Nickelback, Creed, Godsmack & Metallica. Andy’s sudden & untimely departure in May of 2002 was shocking to the band. His solid style and full tone will be greatly missed by all.

Tony Delessio had played with area cover band’s doing the same material and was able to step right in making transition almost transparent. Certainly a real trooper, Tony learned an incredible amount of material in a short time enabling the band to continue the summer’s schedule of appearance’s without missing a beat. Tony brings some new song’s to the band like Creed’s “My Own Prison” & Sublime’s “Santeria”. His five string  bottom end will enable the Big Bang to continue to broaden the band’s musical endeavor’s.

Consult the schedule of appearance’s for the band’s next available show coming soon to a venue near you.
